Meet Michelle Vella

How My Career Story Became My Purpose

Real-world career support—rooted in lived experience and informed by evidence-based methods.

I’m Michelle, a Certified Career Development Practitioner and founder of The Tailored Career. I help women figure out what they truly want to do—and teach them how to actually land the job.

Some of the women I work with feel completely stuck in their careers. Others know what they want, but don’t know how to get there. I support both.

My work blends self-discovery and career clarity with practical, modern job search strategy. That means everything from exploring your values and strengths, to building resumes and LinkedIn profiles that actually work, to learning how to connect with the right people and show up with confidence.

I started this work because I’ve lived it.

In 2016, I graduated as a mature student—and a single mom—full of ambition but under pressure to figure it all out fast. I was one of the last in my class to land a job, and even though I had experience, I couldn’t figure out how to communicate my value.

Eventually, I landed a role in HR (thank you, LinkedIn), and everything shifted. Being on the inside of the hiring process sparked a deep interest in how people market themselves, how they get noticed, and how they position their value in competitive job markets.

That curiosity led me to pursue additional training at Conestoga College in career development. There, I expanded my work beyond job search strategy—diving into career theory and the psychology behind how people build careers that actually fit.

It shaped the way I support women now: not just helping them land a job, but helping them build careers that align with who they are and support their overall well-being.

Over the past decade, I’ve supported thousands of women through coaching, workshops, and consulting—both inside organizations and through my own business.

I’ve spoken at institutions like Georgian College, Lakehead University, and the University of Toronto, and consulted on career education strategy with Lakehead and Georgian.

I was part of the national team that created Canada’s CCDP® certification exam and served as a board member for the Ontario Association of Career Management.

At the core of all this, my mission is simple:

To help women find alignment, get paid what they’re worth, and feel empowered in their careers—on their terms.

I believe career development is personal, political, and powerful.

And I’m here to make it feel doable.

Get to Know Me Better

Solo Traveler

A few years ago, I promised myself to take at least one solo trip each year. It's been life-changing and a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with myself. My solo first trip was to Rome, Italy and I can't wait to go back! Bellissima!

Career Changer

I've experimented a lot in my career, taking on roles such as retail manager, wedding planner, administrator, education consultant, college instructor, project analyst, HR consultant, recruiter, and more! I've reinvented myself many times and thoroughly enjoyed the journey.

Fascinated by Self-Discovery

Since 2020, I have been on an incredible journey of self-discovery. My fascination with learning more about myself has led me to take numerous assessments and quizzes in both traditional and spiritual modalities. Here are some of my results (no worries if they don't make sense to you): ENFJ, Human Design Manifestor (5/2) with emotional authority, and life path 3 in numerology.

Supporting Women

The true purpose of my soul's work is to support women by promoting gender equality, challenging societal norms and expectations, and creating positive and safe communities where women can thrive. I want to inspire women to make bold, transformative moves in their lives.
