Holding Space in Moments of Loss: The Story Behind Bridget’s Bunnies

Featuring Theresa Morrison, Executive Director and Co-founder

For many families, pregnancy and infant loss is experienced in silence. It is a deeply personal grief, often carried quietly, without clear direction on where to turn for support.

For Theresa Morrison, this reality was not abstract. It was lived.

After experiencing the isolation of pregnancy and infant loss, Theresa also experienced something else: connection. Through meeting others who had gone through similar loss, she saw the impact of community and the gap that still existed for parents in their earliest moments of grief. “We wanted to reach parents in their moment of crisis,” she explains. “Donating Comfort Kits to our local hospital was a way to do that.”

From that intention, Bridget’s Bunnies was created.

With approximately 1 in 4 pregnancies ending in loss, the need for support is far more common than many realize; yet many parents do not know where to go, or how to access care in those first, overwhelming moments. Bridget’s Bunnies exists to bridge that gap by offering Comfort Kits, connection, and gentle guidance to families navigating loss.

For Theresa, impact is often found in quiet, human moments.

She recalls someone new to the area, who first attended Bridget’s Run to support the community. Months later, that same individual experienced pregnancy loss. When they returned the following year, it was as a volunteer, now understanding the impact of the organization in a deeply personal way.

This work has also revealed something unexpected. Many people have experienced pregnancy or infant loss and carry that grief quietly throughout their lives.

Support does not need to be large to be meaningful. Bridget’s Bunnies relies almost entirely on individual donations, and even small contributions can make a real difference.

“$20 goes a lot further here than people might think,” Theresa shares.

Volunteers play a role beyond helping. They are advocates and connectors, helping reduce stigma and increase awareness by sharing the work.

At its core, this work is about care.“We cannot take away the pain,” Theresa says, “but we can help remove additional suffering while providing gentle direction.”

Through Comfort Kits, connection, and community presence, Bridget’s Bunnies offers support in moments when it is needed most. And at the centre of it all is something deeply personal. While the organization supports many families, it is rooted in a story that not everyone thinks to ask about.

Theresa shares that she always appreciates when people take the time to ask about Bridget, the person behind the name, and the story that started it all.
